Casey is an 8 year old Pomeranian. She was surrendered by her owner who could no longer take care of her. She has had a medical history of having seizures in her former home (4 in 5 years) but is not taking medication as they are not happening often. This medical issue may be something for her new owner to plan for and research and discuss with a veterinarian prior to applying. She had had no seizures while in our care. Casey is a little dog and will require grooming which is typical for the breed. Grooming can cost anywhere from $45-65 depending on what salon and services are requested and what is done at home to maintain her coat. Most Pomeranian owners budget for grooming every 3-4 months.

We do not have any other information on Casey’s former life as her owner gave her away recently sighting she did not want her anymore and was going to have her euthanized. The person who took her did not want her put to sleep so she took her in and then networked rescues to find her a safe place to find a home.

FOSTER HOME REPORT

We call her Casey, the Wonderpet. I cannot believe anyone would get rid of this dog. She is a piece of cake — and such a little fluffy ball of cuteness! It did take her a while to warm up to us. The first week she was here, we would get little wags and she’d let us pet her, but she wasn’t very animated or excited about much. Now, we come home and she runs to greet us, or we pick up the leash and she spins in circles of sheer joy. She is also content to sit on a lap (for a while), but she’d prefer to be near you, not on you. She likes to give little kisses.
Casey is very nonchalant around other dogs. Not yappy or irritable. In fact, she doesn’t have what I’d call ‘little dog syndrome,’ where the little ones need to get the bigger dogs’ attention and prove themselves. She’s curious, but not pushy about it.
She seems to have an iron bladder. We have had no accidents in the house. She even lets us sleep in late on the weekends. Very much appreciated!
As she’s grown more accustomed to our house, we have seen an increase in her barking while we are in our yard and when someone comes to the door. It’s not incessant– just like a ‘heads up! I’m here protecting this space!’ announcement. And she stops when we tell her to.
All in all, Casey is going to make someone very happy! She is a sweet and loving companion who doesn’t ask too much of her humans, but she gives a lot back.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
