ChapsSHM_body_sideChaps_bedChaps is a one year old American Bulldog Mix. He has been looking for a home through a very small rescue group in New Mexico and fostering at the home or our founder/directors Dad’s house. Chaps and his brother were both living in the home until his brother was adopted at 6 months of age leaving Chaps behind. When Becca’s Dad was planning a trip east to visit family we contacted the rescue to see if they would be open to having Chaps transfer to Secondhand Mutts giving him a higher chance of finding a home where it’s more populated. And, he’d make a great travel companion for Bill for the two day trek. Chaps loves other dogs and was missing his buddy and needed the continued socialization so plans were made to head east. Chaps arrived in June and was introduced to Becca’s dogs at home, the daycare pack and then moved into a foster home.

Chaps is now looking for a forever home to call his own. He would be best suited in a home with another dog (a confident balanced dog would be the best). He is shy and apprehensive around some people but lights up around dogs. He will need someone who can be patient with him and also give him consistent training. We do feel he would do best in a home without kids and high activity and be with an owner who can give him the guidance he needs. Chaps is crate trained and house trained. He has been used to being in a home with a fenced in yard and loves to be outside. He understands dog doors and at his New Mexico home he had full access indoors and outdoors.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
