Chipper was adopted in May 2015 when he was a 5 month old. He is now a 2 year old dog Hound/Terrier mix. He is currently 45 pounds Chipper was a product of dog dumping. A patron of Gateway Animal Clinic was waiting for the doors to open when a person pulled up and asked if they worked there. When the patron said no they opened the door and put the dog (now Chipper) out and drove away. The incident happened so quickly that nobody was able to obtain the plate number on the vehicle. Luckily Chipper didn’t run and he was taken in for an exam. We were contacted and asked if we could help to avoid having Chipper end up at the local kennel. We found him a home quickly but something changed in the current living situation and he has been returned to us to find a new home. Chipper has been living with a young child and two parents.

Chipper has gone out with volunteers on walks and with one volunteer she took him for a run and reported how great he did. He loves the other dogs at daycare. Chipper does have some issues revolving around people food (we believe he was given it without proper direction) and guarding issues with food. He would be best with kids 10+ and not with toddlers or young children because of his guarding issues until they can be resolved. He responds incredibly well to men and would do great in a male household or where a male can take the lead with Chipper’s training.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
