Choo Choo

ADOPTED! July 15, 2015

Choo-Choo was adopted from us over a year ago and re-homed to family members shortly after the adoptive family had a baby and determined Choo-Choo was not a fan of babies. Luckily for them, at the time, they had close family that loved her and took her in. Due to grandchildren visiting the home and Choo Choo’s new owner taking care of of baby during the day and the behavior not improving they reached out to us asking if we could help find her a new home. Choo-Choo will be moving to a foster home so we can observe her behavior, taking walks with volunteers, going to events and hopefully finding a family or person who falls in love with her and doesn’t have a need to hang out with babies or toddlers. Choo-Choo is not aggressive, rather fearful and with time and patience and training her reported behavior could be something worked through. Based on the prior owners recommendation we have limited her adoption to families with kids 10+ and would prefer to have her in a home with a fenced yard. She is great with other dogs at daycare.

PRIOR HOME REPORT:

Choo-Choo is very loveable and easily trained. She follows verbal signals and hand signals. If you fill her food bowl, you can raise your hand and she will stop and sit until you point to the bowl and she can eat. She does well with other dogs but does want to be the dominant dog in the home (this is not the case at daycare). She’s very playful and high energy so maybe not a great companion for an elderly dog. She loves to cuddle and is known to lay with someone if they are injured or ailing. She will sleep and stay in a cage when alone in the house. This is recommended because she is an expert counter surfer. She’s known to nab everything from a lick of cake frosting to a slice of bacon before anyone notices.

She is great with older kids. She likes to run and play ball. She does get a bit barky when she is excited or if someone comes to the door. She absolutely needs to be fenced in or she will run the neighborhood – this is common for hound dogs to want to be out and about.  For some reason she doesn’t seem to do well with babies once they start crawling around. She will bark at them or try and lay in their play area. She doesn’t like that she can’t play with their toys. She also will growl and bark if they get near her cage.  She’s never harmed, bitten or acted on this aggression at all. She’s done just fine with kids once they get past the toddler age.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee $200
