CrunchySHM_sideface2CrunchySHM_cacArrival Status….

Capt’n Crunchy is a severely emaciated Doberman Pinscher that was found stray and in terrible condition with mange. He was taken to the City of Cleveland Kennel and pulled by our rescue on June 30th. His eye was filled with mucus, his face bleeding, his body temperature extremely hot (from the parasites) and completely emaciated. He is a black and rust Doberman and it was neglect that caused him to get mange. His feet are badly swollen, his bones all exposed and he is not neutered.

CrunchySHM_faceHe is currently being treated at Gateway Animal Clinic while we seek a foster home for his recovery period. We anticipate it could take up to 4 months of medication and medicated baths until we see the true Doberman that is waiting to show us his beauty. Crunchy was very grateful to get out of the kennel when he did as he wagged his nub and kissed our Directors face upon the two meeting. Although he is stinky and has a long road ahead it’s dog like Crunchy that make us proud of our work.

You can help Crunchy by donating to The Extra Mile fund via paypal or by sending a check to our location. Credit card donations may be made over the phone during the hours of 10 AM and 4 PM weekdays.

One month later….

crunchy_cherylCrunchy, who is now going by Phoenix,  has moved into a foster home with a dog mom that previously adopted a Doberman from us and he’s going to recuperate there for awhile. He has received weekly medicated baths, various anti-biotics and visited the local vet in Michigan for skin and health checks. He has been really coming out of his shell over the last few months living with two other dogs on his journey to good health.

Crunchy is very respectful of other dogs and their behavior around him. He picks up on anything, he’s eager to work and learn. He knows basic commands. He is now 80 pounds and fairly strong and would benefit from wearing a harness for walks as his foster mom has been doing. He is a gentle spirited boy that has a lot of love to give.

Crunchy is up to date on shots, microchipped and neutered. He is finally ready to find his forever home!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
