Dorothy Gale

ADOPTED! July 21, 2014

Dorthy Gale was adopted by a family in late December 2013. She was recently returned to due a divorce. While we tend to prepare our applicants through our application process for things that come up in life and how to deal with those while having a dog, sometimes it’s the dog that suffers too. We are confident we can find Dorthy, now known as Bailey, a home with some of the many people who expressed interest in her last year.

Here is her original story….

Dorothy Gale was taken in from the City of Cleveland Kennel. She arrived a stray, waited in a cell scared to death for someone to save her and nobody did. She was very unapproachable, growling behind her bars, scared and frightened and headed for the “list” of dogs who may not make it out to rescue or adoption. Thankfully, one of our volunteers and a regular volunteer at the City Kennel saw through her behavior and wanted to give her a chance. Through patience and trust she was able to get Dorothy out of her kennel and into the cold air and sunshine.

Before arriving at our facility, she was an unnamed dog scared at the City of Cleveland KennelAs you can see from her photo on the left she was deserving of a spa day. Brittany and Jim at The Mutt Hutt Grooming Salon volunteered their time to get her cleaned up in hopes a rescue would notice her and take her in. By chance our director, Becca, stopped in to the salon and heard she was going back to the kennel, couldn’t fathom that and decided to have her evaluated to join the Secondhand Mutts family.

She was evaluated slowly with big and little dogs, she showed no interest and was completely calm around the pack.  She is currently living in a foster home with several other dogs.

Dorothy Gale is around 2 years old, she is as sweet as can be, up to date on shots, and microchipped.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee: $200
