ADOPTED! May 15, 2015

Drake is a 2 year old, male, Manchester Terrier. His owner took him to their vet to have him euthanized because they were moving and were not aware of re-homing options. Luckily for Drake he cross paths with one of our rescue angels and transporters, she had the dog released to her and then reached out to us to see if we could take him in. When Drake arrived he was pretty apprehensive but we knew he had been through a big change so we took our time, moved him to a foster home, and now he’s ready to find a forever home! Drake is up to date on shots and neutered.

Drake has exhibited some typical protective issues that can be common with this breed. He is hesitant and fearful when meeting new people and will need an adopter who is patient and willing to work through these issues at home and with a professional trainer. Because of this we are recommending that Drake not be placed in a home with small children.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

Drake is 100% house trained. Loves to play with other dogs of all personalities and sizes. Very affectionate and always wants to snuggle up with people. He barks out the window a little but responds to corrections. Knows commands; sit, down, stay, “off”, “go lay down” He pulls on the leash but a plastic training correction collar he did much better. He has slight separation anxiety, at first when I would leave him in my room he would cry but I gave that no attention so he stopped that. But I think it’s important the new foster/adopters don’t give him any attention before leaving the house. He will get into garbage if the container isn’t high enough. Overall he is a big lover, medium energy leveled dog that will probably fit in just about anywhere he goes.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
