Hopkins

ADOPTED! January 5, 2015ClairHopkinsSHM_table

Hopkins_foundSaint Clair and Hopkins were found with 3 other dogs scared and abandoned in a yard of a house on Cleveland’s east side. These two were paired up and more social than the other 3 and were coaxed into a yard to safety. The Good Sam who took them in contacted friends and they were networked safely to our care. We posted the dogs as “Found” on various local sites but no owners claimed them and they were admitted into our program. Our best guess is the pack are street dogs, fending for themselves, eating garbage and surviving on the kindness of strangers. Sadly, the other 3 dogs were found days later deceased on the side of the road.

Bundled up until a safe place could take them in!

Saint Clair and Hopkins were quarantined their first week with us. They were seen by Dr. Liz at Gateway Animal Clinic and remarkable a clean bill of heath for the pair. They are estimated to be around 8 months old. They were neutered and spayed while in our care and we are actively seeking a foster home for the pair. We fitted them with purple Secondhand Mutt collars and tags and slowly introduced them to their new friends at The Mutt Hutt. The pair are bonded but we believe can be separated into two forever homes if necessary. We’d love to see them stay together though.

The pair love other dogs and are starting to get real life socialization. We have some consistent dog walkers that are doing their best to get them motivated on a leash. They have never walked on a leash prior to our knowledge and are learning the ways of the world. It will take a kind, patient person to give them the time they need to learn normal dog behaviors. Like most puppies they are chewers and will require a crate (or we recommend one) for about 6 months or so.

fosterhomeWe are currently seeking a foster home for the pair until we can place them. If you are interested in fostering Saint Clair or Hopkins or both please email our volunteers at foster_coordinators@secondhandmutts.org.

Foster Home Report

Coming soon!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee $200 – Adopt the pair $300
