ADOPTED! March 25, 2015
Janie is a year and a half to two year old Doberman Pinscher (she could be mixed a little tiny bit with Rottweiler). She was found as a stray in Franklin County, Ohio and taken to the local animal shelter. She exhibited poor cage behavior and was unable to go onto the adoption floor to meet potential adopters due to being scared and barking in her kennel. She was then networked, like Roxie who also was at the same shelter, to area rescues and we agreed to take both of these scared girls. Janie was picked up by one of our transport volunteers and arrived with a wagging nub happy to have her freedom again! She was evaluated over the weekend with other dogs and moved to a foster home on Monday.
Janie is up to date on shots and healthy. She will be spayed prior to moving to a forever home. She knows some basic commands, loves other dogs and is house trained. Janie would make an excellent family dog, she is gentle, outgoing and has a wonderful personality. She is great with other dogs and loves to play.
Foster Home Report
Janie is a sweet gal who loves receiving affection and has a great temperament. Though she’s a little hesitant when meeting new people, she quickly warms up to them. A former stray, Janie is highly food driven, so it’s important to secure trash cans and keep any food out of reach. She has only peed in our house once, but she peed on a towel near the door, and it was our first time leaving her at the house alone with our other Doberman (it was also the first night we took her to our home). Since then, we let her out in the yard to play and go potty at least twice a day, and she has not had any accidents. She knows “sit” and “lay down”, and we are working on “stay”. She has escaped from our yard twice–in both instances, the gate was accidentally left open. We called out for her and she immediately came running back. Overall, Janie is a mellow, adorable, well behaved and loving dog. She is not high maintenance and would be happy just cuddling up next to you.
We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
