Kanga

ADOPTED! March 17, 2016

Kanga was adopted in May 2014 and returned by her owners. After months of training and trying to work through some leash reactivity the trainer and owner of Kanga decided it was best to return her to Secondhand Mutts to match her up with another family. After a couple of months back in the “rescue system” Kanga started fostering with one of the staff members at The Mutt Hutt. Kanga and the staffs personal dog became great friends and was adopted shortly thereafter. Due to unforeseen circumstances and with much regret Kanga’s owner and our organization agreed that Kanga was better suited to find a home elsewhere.

It is always sad when dogs are returned to us and in this case we firmly believe this was a wrong owner/wrong dog match in both cases and we are confident we can find Kanga a family. She deserves to find a match.

Kanga would be happiest being a solo dog or living with a dog that she connects with. She loves kids. She would thrive from having a steady routine. She gets along with dogs off-leash and would love to spend time at the dog park. Due to how much time she has spent at The Mutt Hutt she could use a long great from daycare life and is probably best suited for a home with a fenced yard and an owner who doesn’t “need” daycare for her. She loves walks and sleeping. She loves people and going places. Kanga is approved to live in BSL cities including Lakewood, Ohio.

Kanga’s Back History – October 2014:

Kanga is a 50 pound Boxer mix, she was taken to a high-kill shelter in central Ohio, and when the shelter told the owners they were too full and couldn’t take her in, they threatened to shoot her. We work with the Fayette County Shelter volunteers and they pleaded with the family to give them 24 hours to find a rescue willing to take her in, and we agreed to take her. She was surrendered the next day and transported to us on in the fall of 2014. Kanga is going on 3 years old, she loves other dogs and previously lived with kids. Kanga has been cat tested and she is good with cats!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee $200

Special thanks to Portraits by Martha for the photography.
