We are going The Extra Mile for Magic Mike. Abandoned at a county shelter in Ohio last June 2017 Mike won the hearts of all of the volunteers who cared for him during his 7 months at the shelter. With limited funds to take care of his skin issues, adopters passing him by daily, the days turned into weeks, the weeks into months and then we stepped in to help Mike. When he arrived at our door step, crusty skin and weeping eyes he was quickly dubbed the nickname Magic Mike. We moved him to a decompression quarantine space where he could rest in a larger, quieter space than what he had become used to. We also got him to our vet clinic for a health assessment and had him stay there for a few days. He was a well behaved client in his kennel and the staff at Gateway certainly enjoyed his company. Mike enjoys belly rubs!

Mike has a noncontagious skin infection that is being treated with antibiotics and weekly medicated baths. He developed a common cough from his time at the shelter and transition to his new environment and has been unable to meet other dogs. When Mike is feeling better we will start slow socialization with a skilled handler leading the leash and Mike. Magic Mike has moved to a foster home and we hope to have a report to share in the coming days or week.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

Mike is as sweet and well behaved as they come. He is an incredibly calm, mellow dog who is just so happy to be given love and affection. He loves belly rubs and ADORES cuddling. His favorite spot is laying in-between me and the back of the couch, face snuggled up underneath my arm. He never jumps on the bed without being invited, and is perfectly content sleeping on his bed on the floor next to mine. He is not a barker – the daily noises of my apartment building do not bother him. In the three weeks he’s been with me he has only barked when there is a knock on my front door. He is completely crate trained. He has no problem going into his crate in the morning when I leave for work and is usually curled up on the blanket I leave in there when I return him. He’s house trained. There we a few accidents when I was leaving him out of the crate during the day, however, he knows they were not okay and we’ve had no problems since crating began. He’s non-destructive. He does not chew on anything that is not his. He sits well before I feed him, every time. Mike is great on walks, not a puller and not overwhelmed by city noises. Whoever is lucky enough to adopt this fella is going to have a wonderful, loyal, loving companion. He deserves the very best forever home.
