Mrs. Clause

MrsClausSHM

ADOPTED! August 27, 2014

Mrs. Claus was surrendered at a southern Ohio shelter by her owner. She deserves better than that and we will find her a wonderful home! She arrived with terrible ear infections in both of her ears. Her ears are so badly infected she will need ear ointment and regular cleanings for the rest of her life. This is obviously a dog who was neglected of vet care. She is starving for attention. Mrs Claus is about 6 years old, she has lots of energy for a middle-aged gal. She loves all dogs, cats and kids. She would make an excellent companion for anyone looking for a loyal, easygoing dog.

Foster Home Report

Mrs. Claus is a wonderful lab mix and we think she is about 6 years old. She is crate trained, house broken and will be your best buddy on a leash walk. She does not pull at all, shows interest in dogs that approach her, but will not lunge or bark at them. She is super sweet and playful. She loves to play in our doggie pool and cool off. She and our 11 year old chocolate lab are buddies and enjoy water sports together in our back yard. Our other three female dogs are showing her the ropes about life in our house and she is getting along well with them all. She will follow you around the house and be by your side at all times. She takes treats gently and is good with the kids she has met thus far. She likes to sniff them and kiss them. She does enjoy helping you cook and checking out what is going on up on the counter, but can easily be redirected. We would not say she is a counter surfer, but rather she likes to explore and see what we are doing. She thinks she is a lap dog and will climb right up into yours for a snuggle. She has a great playful energy about her and it is well balanced with a desire to nap and have her belly rubbed. She barks a bit in her crate when she wants out to play, but will settle down very easily. She just wants you to know she is there and ready for you to play with her when you want to. She has spent many evenings on our couch wedged in between us snoring peacefully. We are working on sit, down and come with her. Her love of treats has made training pretty easy so far. She does not get into things she shouldn’t and loves to try to get her treats out of kings or other treat dispensing toys we have. She is a pretty smart cookie!

MrsClaus_rightearMedically, Mrs. Claus has some ear issues that her previous owner as far as we can tell did very little to resolve for her. She has some swelling and pollups from a yeast infection that was not treated. They are getting better and are less of a nuisance to her now with her meds. She is a champ at taking her medicine and knows that we are trying to make her feel better. She will lie on her back and try to lick you as you rub her ears with ointment and wash them out. Her ears are a bit stinky, but she is so cute and loving, it’s certainly not a deal breaker. Already, they look much much better and are bothering her less. It appears to us that someone either shaved or cut down her teeth in the past. She is all gums in the front on the top and bottom, but that does not stop her from enjoying crunchy treats and her meals. She is very food motivated.

Mrs. Claus has many years ahead of her and we hope whoever adopts her will appreciate her awesomeness! If we did not have four pups of our own already and a baby on the way….we just love her! She is a goofball!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
