Neptune BodyNeptune is a 3 year old blue and rust Doberman Pinscher female. She has natural ears and a docked tail. She is on the smaller side weighing in at 54# and we anticipate she will stay below 60#. She was found as a stray and picked up by animal control in Tuscawarus County and kept on a stray hold. The shelter always hopes owners will come claim their dogs but that was not the case for Neptune. She was transferred to our rescue to start her life over. She is not spayed but will be spayed prior to her adoption. She has a lot of cute quirks including hoarding toys, smiling with a big teeth smile when she greets people, flopping over on her side to expose her belly and she will grab her leash and bring it to you when she is ready for a walk.

Neptune is a little apprehensive around dogs and will need more time to acclimate to meeting dogs and learning how to socialize. For now she would do best as an only dog and my what a great only dog she will be for whomever adopts her.  Neptune has been spending time decompressing in a quarantine space. She will be slowly introduced to dogs and then acclimate to the daycare pack when she is ready. Neptune had a short stay in a foster home with a cat and other dog and was not quite ready for sharing space with another dog and is now looking for a new foster home until we place her in a forever home. She is cat curious and will need some more supervision as we get to know her and oversee her behavior toward cats.

Check back for an update on Neptune or email us if you would like to set up a meet and greet.

FOSTER HOME REPORT

Here is the “cat report” from her 24-hour cat test trial:
When she first came into the house, she walked around investigating (on leash) and came upon Storm sitting on my bed.  Storm hissed at her and she backed off, but then kept going back to the bedroom to look for Storm, even staring under the bed for  minutes at a time when Storm wasn’t even in the room. She walked past Crush sitting under a table a bunch of times before she noticed him and backed off at first, but after that she started what I would call stalking behavior.  She would catch sight of him under a table or down the stairs and would walk out if his line of vision, but then start creeping towards him very slowly with her head hanging down staring at him.  I would get in front of her at this point and say no and redirect her to a toy, which worked for just a little bit and then she would go back looking for him.  He did run away from her at one point and she did follow at a pretty quick pace, but he made it to the other side of the dog gate before she caught up and then stared him down until I got over to her to redirect.
