Petey is a male Pekenegese/Shih Tzu (best guess) who was found running in the middle of Euclid Avenue and picked up by a Good Samaritan who also volunteers for us. She got him out of traffic and into her car to safety. It was after hours and she didn’t know what to do and brought him to our facility. Petey was severely neglected and had large mats of fur tangled into dread locks, he was treated for fleas with Capstar, and our groomers at The Mutt Hutt Grooming Salon who donated their time had to shave his fur off to keep him comfortable. We posted his picture and held him for three days and now he’s available for adoption.
Petey weighs 11 pounds and is estimated to be 2-3 years old. He was not neutered but he’s now scheduled to be neutered. He got a clean bill of health from our veterinarians at Gateway Animal Clinic. He is very social with other dogs and loves human companionship. He was tested with cats and appears to be cat friendly. Petey will require basic grooming so please factor this expense into your budget if you are considering adoption. Most salon’s will charge anywhere between $45-60 for a full-service groom.
We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
