Polka Dot is a six month old female Labrador/Pointer mix. This breed will make for an excellent family pet. She is active like any puppy her age and will require continued structure and guidance her foster provider family is providing her with. Polka loves other dogs and humans alike and would do great in a home where she can get activity and a playmate would be an added bonus but not a necessity for this lovely gal. Polka would benefit from having an active owner and a fenced yard (not a requirement) given her breed mix and age. She is kid friendly! Polka is up to date on her vaccines, microchipped and scheduled to be spayed.

Polka was adopted two weeks after her arrival at our facility after a short term trial run. She was with the family for 6 weeks, which is about when dogs settle in and get comfortable with the household routine and lifestyle change, when the family realized their senior dog at home was unhappy with the new addition. They reached out to us to let us know and we were more than understanding given our mission is to ‘respect the dog’ and them putting their seniors dogs needs ahead of the new one was a priority. Given how young Polka is we are confident she will land in a forever home soon and she loves being with us. We are actively seeking a foster home for her to transition into.

If you are interested in adopting Polka please fill out an online adoption application. We do review our applications to match our dogs with those who have gone through our application processing and are waiting to be matched to a dog. We always give priority to our dogs and match them with the best home for their needs and never adopt first come, first serve.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

This report is from her stay at a foster home from Jan. 22 to Feb. 6:

Polka Dot is doing great in our home with our two large female dogs.  She has a lovely and sweet personality.

She has an active mind and likes to have something to do, and something to chew on.  We give her plenty of options for toys / chewing and have not noticed any destructive behavior.   She has certainly settled in at our house and actively seeks out affection, she definitely has some lap dog in her.

She does have that typical puppy high energy – she needs exercise and loves other dogs.  She does not “need” another dog in the home, but she certainly enjoys playing with other dogs.

She picks up on commands very quickly, and she wants to please you.  She is food motivated and very very smart.  She has the potential to learn a lot, and she would do well in a home that gives her mental stimulation.

She is crate trained and she is learning potty training (she doesn’t know how to “tell” you yet).  She knows several commands.  She is well behaved and takes good direction towards people or dogs.  She loves to eat (very quickly), so we actively try to slow down how much she eats and to make her work for it.  She knows how to counter surf, and we are actively working on that behavior.
