Ralphie

ADOPTED! November 11, 2016

Sometimes our mutts come from the right place, but just at the wrong time. Ralphie is a little Basenji terrier mix that has been loved since he was first adopted at just 8 weeks old from the Animal Protective League 5 years ago. In addition to being part of a young fast-growing family (with two kids currently under 2-years-old), he has aced puppy school and has been a Mutt Hutt regular his entire life. While he’s learned to be as low-maintenance as a dog can get, he’s looking for a new family that can shower him with the love and attention he deserves.

When it comes to appearance, there’s no mutt like him. Weighing in at just 22 lbs, he’s small enough to be a lap dog, but his athletic frame make him a perfect wrestling buddy. He’s got an expressive face, legs like a gazelle, and a cute combo of black, brown, and white coloring. Ralphie’s trademark, though, is that he has one pointy ear, and one that flops down.

Ralphie’s temperament is kind, gentle, playful, and occasionally excitable when meeting new people. He has never shown a bit of aggression and is extremely tolerant of unpredictable toddlers. He loves to play. He’s a pro at fetching and catching balls in mid-air, and he’ll run like the wind if you give him enough space. While he’ll need his daily exercise, he’s very content to relax in the warmest, snuggest spot in the house, which is typically a person’s lap.  With both of his current parents having full-time jobs, he shows zero separation anxiety and tremendous patience when it comes to waiting his turn for attention. He responds well to many commands, and hasn’t had an accident in the house in 4 years. As a Mutt Hutt regular, he is ready to be buddies with any dog he meets.

While it can be hard to imagine why such a great little dog needs a new home, Ralphie is simply a victim of fast-changing circumstances. He just needs a home where he can stretch his legs and move up a few notches on the totem pole of life. Come meet him today!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
