Rhoda

 ADOPTED! AUGUST 8, 2014

RhodaSHMMeet Rhoda. She was picked up with another dog in a yard in the City of Cleveland and taken to the kennel. She was obviously neglected, had open sores and a skin condition that needed to be treated. Thankfully the Friends of the Cleveland Kennel stepped in and made it possible for Rhoda to receive the medical care she needed at the Tremont Animal Clinic. Dr. Sara started her on antibiotics, prescribed medicated baths and diagnosed her with Demodetic mange. This type of mange is non-contagious to other dogs and very treatable. It could take months for Rhoda to completely recover but when that time comes you won’t believe the results.

Rhoda is as sweet as honey – she is under 2 years old, very gentle, responsive and will make any family happy. She is curious about cats and needs a further cat test to know how her real responses will be in a home environment. She is moving to a foster home so we will have a full report in the coming week on her behavior. We are looking forward to getting her acclimated on the daycare floor so she can play with other dogs big and small. Rhoda will require weekly, medicated baths during her recovery period.

Rhoda visited Dr. Liz at Gateway Animal Clinic for a follow up now that she is in our care. We will be taking full responsibility for her medical needs while she is in our care even if she’s adopted. Rhoda is not yet spayed but will be once she gains some weight and the time is right.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
