Ringo was surrendered by his owner after he took a job in southern Ohio and moved her from Colorado. His landlord would not allow him to keep Ringo and he had no other choice but to take him to the small, rural shelter in Tuscawarus County. We were able to pick him up and bring him back to Cleveland. He rode very nicely in the car for the drive home. We had very little information to go by from his former owners notes he left with the shelter other than his name and that he didn’t like male dogs and may not like cats. We have a very experienced foster home for Dobermans in Grafton and we slowly introduced Ringo to the Grafton pack of male Doberman. He got along with all of them, he loves to play (and can play a little rough so supervision is necessary) and has a very confident personality. Ringo also met some horses and a donkey and at this time not having a full understanding of the importance of command work we would hesitate to say he is “farm animal friendly”.
Ringo is going to be extremely loyal to whomever is lucky enough to adopt him and provide him with companionship. We are adamant that his new owner provide Ringo with professional dog training to learn and master his commands providing him with much needed structure and consistency. This is imperative with dogs who are confident and he must have owners who are more confident than he is. Ringo is a young dog and needs plenty of exercise. The Doberman Pincher breed does not really grow up until they are close to 3 years old and many dogs in this breed category have energy for up to 8 years of age. Ringo is naturally protective and has a very demanding bark when he is in the home (again, common for the breed). Ringo will need to continue socializing with dogs of all sizes and genders to become a socialite. He is not quite ready for pack play in a daycare or dog park setting….this comes with time.
Ringo loves to play tug and is a great walker. He does know his basic commands (sit, stay, heel, down) but needs continued polishing of those commands. Shortly after staying on the Grafton farm with his doberman friends we moved him to a home with a single male so that we could learn more about him in a different environment. Ringo loves staying on the 10×10 screened porch. He goes for 3 walks a day, eats like a champion and his foster dad admits does some counter surfing. Apparently he loves people food and this is something his foster dad is working. Oh boy!
