Rolo

ADOPTED! April 22, 2014RoloSHM_toy
Rolo is a stunning, 14 month old, red and rust male Doberman Pinscher. He was sadly surrendered by his owner who fell ill and could not longer give him the life he deserved to have. She put her dog ahead of her own desires of wanting to keep him and for that we commend her for respecting the dog. Often times owners surrender dogs to rescues and we scratch our heads asking why? Couldn’t they work through those issues? And in other cases are hearts fill with empathy over the sadness we feel when owners hit hard times and have no choice but to give up a dog. We never judge here, our mission is to help dogs who come to us.

RoloSHM_bodyRolo was originally purchased from a breeder in Ohio at 8 weeks old, he was brought up in a very loving home receiving affection, disciple and lots of exercise. He was used to running up to 3 miles a day with the owners 12 year old daughter. He could easily be trained to run longer distances if paired with a running partner companion. Rolo’s former owner left him a large quantity of personal belongings for his new adopter including his favorite toys, bone, leash, collar and treats. He has had a history of stomach issues and through trial and error he’s now eating a food that does not upset his stomach or cause issues. It is not one of the highest quality foods or the lowest, it’s a brand you can find on any pet store shelves.

Being a young Doberman Rolo is going to need plenty of exercise and an active lifestyle. He is good with kids, dogs, a little hesitant around cats but does not have a prey drive. He is protective, loyal and loves to be attached to his human. He was allowed to sleep in his former owners bed but can be easily directed into his own bed (he went for a weekend foster so we found this out). He does have a little separation barking when he’s left alone but after a few minutes it subsides. He was crate trained earlier in his life but has not been since then but could be trained again if needed. He is not destructive but he loves toys and may destroy the kind that can be. He also enjoys throwing his toys around the house so be prepared to clean up toys unless you can train him to return them to a toy bin!

Rolo is up to date on shots, he’s neutered and microchipped. He has been tested for Von Willebrand disease and his test factor is 19. If you need more information about this disease or test results we ask that you call your veterinarian to be educated or arrange for a time for us to explain it.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee $250
