Roxie

Roxie

ADOPTED! October 24, 2015

Roxie is a 5 year old, black and tan, female, Doberman Pinscher. She was surrendered to Franklin County Animal Shelter by her owners because “they were moving and couldn’t take her”.  Roxy was not doing well at the shelter, which is common for her breed, and was not a good presence on the adoption floor/cages so she was network to Doberman friendly rescues for transfer and we took her in. Roxie lived in a home with children ages 3+, has been exposed to dogs, his house trained (can hold it up to 10 hours) and seems to be a typical gal that just needs love and attention. She knows some basic commands too!

We placed Roxie in February 2015 with one of our approved Doberman applicants that was waiting for the right match to come in. We just learned that Roxie is being returned but to no fault of her own. Her owner was diagnosed with lymphoma and the family is unable care for her along with their two senior dogs (they are keeping) due to this recent news. They know that she would have a much better life in a new home and we would be able to find her that home.

Roxy is healthy, up to date on shots, microchipped, and spayed.

PRIOR HOME REPORT:

Roxie is a sweet girl, who needs a lot of exercise and attention. She loves to go for runs if you are a runner. She knows all basic commands–sit, stay, come–as well as “leave it” and “heel.” Roxie does NOT like sunglasses, hats or beards at all. She barks and backs up generally. She will charge someone walking by her yard. She runs off if not on a leash. A fenced yard would be great for her. (I do not have a fence–so always have to have her on a leash.)

She loves to sit on furniture, and sleep on the bed with you. She is a bed hog! I have not tried to crate train her at her age. (My lab loves his crate, where he was from a puppy.) She will yip at you if you are not touching her or paying attention to her. She is a leaner, loves to sit on your foot and lean on you. She is very loyal, and loves her people once she is bonded.

She can’t hold her pee for more than 5-6 hours, and she hesitates to poop until the very last minute. If you tell her to POOP–she will try harder. She doesn’t like stepping on wet grass–she’s a bit of a princess! She’s a counter surfer and begs for treats all the time.

I have not had her around cats or small dogs–she is fine with my large lab. She has not been around small children while living with me. My grown children love her. (They are now off to college and unable to help me with her being far away.)

She loves playing fetch with a deflated volleyball, and drags her blanket around like Linus. She LOVES bananas! She is a good dog, and someone will love her and give her a good home, I’m sure of it.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
