Miley and Rush were taken in via the Lakewood Animal Shelter. Their owner passed away and they were taken to the shelter when the extended family could not figure out a way to keep the dogs. Ideally, we’d love to place the pair together but we are open to separating them if that is what ends up being best for the dogs.

FOSTER CARE REPORT

Our Man Rush….Lets start with the ride home in a car with children and adults. He did great! He stood the whole ride to Geauga County and whined only a couple of times. When we stopped at my daughters house he spotted the 3 cats outside and stepped up on the back of the front seat to check them out and stared them down and whined a bit. When we reached my house he went  potty outside came in and enjoyed everyone in the house. He drank some water and ate very little food, so I feed him out of my hand and got him to eat 1 cup a little at a time.
RushSHM_couchAfter everyone went home it was time for bed he hopped on my bed and slept all night never got up once. In the morning we went out side he went potty and came back in he laid on the couch and the floor and napped off and on. I had a visitor stop by so I put him on the leash and took him for a walk around the property and he found some leaves and trees on the side of the yard and did his business. My neighbor walked his small dog up to meet Rush and that also went well, no hair stood up on his back and they just did the doggie sniff…He is very friendly with everyone he has met and very laid back.
He has not barked at all but when I left him in the house and I went to the garage for a while I heard him howling quit a bit..lol….. it was funny. He has played a little with a few toys and rolled on his back and let us rub his tummy. He is just very tired and I am giving him a much quite and rest as he wants. So I am enjoying him very much he is a great dog he is house broken as far as I can tell no accidents yet, but I take him out often and I will leave him home alone tomorrow and then we will see. I am giving him the run of the house. No crate we shall see how that goes.

He walks very nicely on a leash. Kid and people friendly, knows sit , stay and come by his name. He is a good boy. He is getting what he needs right now at my house. It is my pleasure to have him here.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
