Sage

ADOPTED! AUGUST 29, 2014

SageSHM_body2Sage is a 9 month old Labrador/Doberman mix. Her previous owner was no longer able to care for her or give her the life she deserved so she called upon us for guidance and help. Sage fit in great with our pack and is living in a temporary foster home until we can find her another or preferably a forever home. Sage was not exposed to much outside of her previous home other than adutls two dogs and cat. She has some mild fear issues – nothing aggressive – she’s just very cautious and curious. She has been exposed to young children and we would recommend due to her insecurities a home with kids 10+ is best for her. She has lots of energy as the mix of breed she is would dictate she get plenty of exercise. Her father was a 110# Doberman and her mom a 75# Labrador Retriever.
Sage is outgoing with dogs, loves the company of dogs and yearns for human leadership and guidance. She is crate trained and knows basic commands. She would do best in a home with another dog but we are open to placing her as a solo dog. We feel she would benefit from having human and dog leadership and companionship.  She is good with cats.

Foster Home Report

Sage’s personality has bloomed so much over the past 6 weeks it’s like I have a new dog in my house.  A once fearful dog now enjoys walks, meeting other dogs at parks and beaches,  exploring her yard and following her dog friends around to see what adventures they get into.  She has learned a great deal from my female, Alabama such as how to give other dogs face licks, go outside for the bathroom, get on and off furniture and the car, wait patiently for meals and follow basic daily routines.

SageSHM_fosterSage is very friendly but she has a talkative side to her which should not be mistaken for aggression but more so hesitation on her part in getting to know strangers.  Once she has seen you a few times she is your best bud and listens to and follows basic commands.

Sage is fully crate trained and house trained for up to six hours.  Now that the school year has started she will be left for 8 hours to work on complete house training with free roam of the house.  Sage loves going on walks and is a Velcro dog while on them.  She gets along with big, medium and little dogs both male and female as well as new dogs and her two occasionally 3 companions here at home.  She sleeps on a dog bed or floor through the night.  She loves toys and chewing bones but her favorite thing is playing one on one with another playmate.  Sage would do best in a home with a fenced in yard and another dog to have as a companion.  She is a very sweet, attentive and loyal dog who would be lucky to have you in her life.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
