Shorty

ShortySHM_faceADOPTED! August 8, 2015

Shorty is a six year old, fawn, male Doberman Pinscher. His owner listed him on Craigslist to find him a home and we intervened to help find him a home. Shorty was attacked by the other dog in the home and when he arrived he had multiple bite wounds around his neck, head and boy. He has been treated by our vet at Gateway Animal Clinic and currently on antibiotics to keep any possible infection away. His previous health record indicated he had been treated for heartworms (2 years ago) and his most recent test he took (7/17/15) indicates he is heartworm negative. Shorty is currently decompressing in a foster home and having some time on and off the daycare floor at The Mutt Hutt getting to know the dogs and the facility. Shorty does have some space issues and the potential to re-direct. Therefore, we believe he would do best in a home with children over 16 and possible no other dogs or live with a submissive dog. H is very affectionate, loves walks and playing. Shorty is off-leash trained and knows basic commands. Shorty is up to date on shots and preventatives and neutered. Shorty is house trained.

Shorty is one of many Dobermans we take in and network for placement with adopters who have been patiently waiting to adopt this breed from our rescue. If you are interested in specifically adopting a Doberman please fill out our adoption application online and indicate “Doberman” in the dogs name box. We do contact our approved adopters when Dobermans come in and rarely do they appear our site for public adoption.

FOSTER HOME REPORT

Shorty has been a blast to have around.  He looks so unique and everyone wants to stop and ask about him.  He’s been excited to meet many different dogs on our walks, and only wasn’t excited about a chihuahua that ran right at him.  At home, he’s content to just chill out and get belly rubs.  If you put your face by his, he will give you kisses, although that involves his big head coming towards yours, so I’m sure that may be surprising for young kids.  He’s been very easy going, and the only time I hear him bark is when he’s dreaming occasionally.  He knows his basic commands sometimes, but listens better if you have food, so we’re working on that.  He’s so fun to walk and loves sniffing everything.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee $250
