SparkleSHM_freedomrideSparkle is a 5 month old mutt puppy. She was picked up in Cleveland and taken to the Cleveland Animal Control facility. We received a tip from The Friends of the Cleveland Kennel she was not picked up by an owner, was suffering from a skin issue and needed a rescue. We were happy to pick her up for her ‘Freedom Ride’ and escort her to Gateway Animal Clinic for a health check.
Sparkle has demodectic mange, a non-contagious skin problem that is treated with medicine for weeks or sometimes month depending on the severity of the condition. Sparkle’s case is mild compared to past cases we’ve treated and she should sustain a full recovery.

Sparkle has moved into a foster home and is currently living with two dogs and a baby. She is doing very well, adjusting to learning how to be in a crate and learning basic house training and commands. She is your typical playful pup who deserves to find a loving family to spend her life with. Sparkle is a Labrador/Border Collie Mix and we estimate she will grow to be 35-50 pounds when she stops growing. She is up to date on shots and will be spayed prior to her adoption.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

SparkleSHM_body_PPSnap Crackle, Pop and Sparkle…that’s me Sparkle and If you’ve met me at events or read this you will know why I Sparkle.  I am 5 going on 6months, about a month behind my favorite family member Declan who is 7 months and the dude I enjoy spending time with.  He is a human baby not a dog one like me but one who likes to chill with me always.  I stretch out and he climbs and pulls but my foster mom shows him how to RESPECT THE DOG, so I get lots of safe pets from him.  I also have two siblings another sister and a brother (dogs) who love to play with me, sleep, walk and these two have taken in a lot of fosters but I think I am their favorite.

I am house broken, whoop whoop!  My foster mom is a teacher so she is off for the summer which helps but I hold it all night and have never had an accident during the day!  I eat good, share well and am respectful of human emotion.  I understand “no” as well I as I understand “LETS WALK” and “WHO WANTS TREATS”.  A lot of that I picked up from my foster siblings, but I’m no late bloomer, I claim I knew it before!

My one downfall and it’s only a downfall if you allow it, but I can wine.  I don’t like to be crated but I am learning it’s a safe place for me to stay. I am a little nervous on car rides and I may want to get up to where you are.  The fact is I can manage a crate but don’t need it, I like going to new places and I can jump, I’m just unsure and want to capitalize on my puppy-hood, you know where you pick me up.  The bottom line, you say NO, I listen and stop.

Soooo, in talking with my foster mom on who I would like to live with is tough for me, mmmmm?  I like this dynamic, mom, baby, two dogs there are plenty of people for me to go to, interact and learn from.  I would also like a house hold where I didn’t need to travel around and where I was the main attraction or an addition to your current pet or child.  I am from what my mom says a pretty chill puppy, but still a pup and need attention and direction.

What do ya think??  I’m pretty free this summer if you want to meet me one on one or if you want to come to some events!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
