Guffin

 ADOPTED! April 17, 2015

SteveSHMGuffin is a 1.5 year old Rat Terrier mix. He was admitted to our program last fall and adopted quickly. Due to allergies with a frequently visiting grandparent his owner were boarding him most weekends but then it became apparent this was not a solution and asked us to take him back. It was a very hard decision as he had become a part of the family and it was not an easy goodbye. Knowing we would be able to find Guffin a great new home did give them peace about their decision.

Guffin is about 20 pounds and loves everyone. He was surrendered by his original owners to a local animal clinic last fall before arriving at our facility. We work with local veterinarians and when we can help dogs that may otherwise end up in a county or city animal control facility we take them in. Guffin is very lovable, he’s loving daycare and the other dogs he’s met. He would make an excellent first pet or an addition to any family. Steve is social, up to date on shots and neutered. He is ready to find his forever home now!

Guffins former owners enrolled him in basic obedience training and he knows sit, stay, off and come. He’s still working on the come command but making progress. He is not consistent with the “heel” command and may need additional guidance/training from his next Pack Leader. Guffin has been exposed to children and is excellent with kids. He loves to play fetch with tennis balls. He does not like having his nails clipped or being around running vacuums. He was a regular at the South Euclid Dog Park.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
