Winnie

ADOPTED! October 17, 2015

Winnie is a 2 year old, 50# Mutt (best guesses: Wheaton/Giant Schnauzer or Wirehaired Griffon) female. She was adopted at a local shelter over a year ago and her owner feels she is not longer a match for what Winnie needs. She is confined to a small apartment with no yard and has more energy to burn than what can be satisfied by a couple of walks per day. Winnie loves people and likes dogs so she could easily live as an only dog or move into a home with a dog who can balance out her energy. Ideally, an owner who is a dedicated runner or someone who has a fenced in yard would be perfect for her. She has not been exposed to small children in her current home and does need to work on general manners such as jumping up on people so a home with toddlers may not be the best fit. Winnie is outgoing, has a great personality and awesome coat! She is a dog that will require grooming at home (brushing) and we would recommend she see a professional groomer 2-3 times per year for general upkeep with her coat or to be shaved down in the summer months.

If you would like to meet Winnie please email us at rescue@secondhandmutts.org. Winnie is up to date on shots, she is spayed and ready to find a home!

Winnie is a sweetie who loves to be the center of attention. While out on a walk, she would say hello to every human out there if she could. She even has a bark to let you know that she is there and that she wants you to notice her! She loves taking long walks and is very good company with a harness or easy-walk. She’s a fast runner and would love a big backyard to go crazy in. Dog parks aren’t really her thing [but she is attending daycare once a week to get more comfortable]. She enjoys all the smells, but she’ll be more interested in the people than the dogs! She’s a snuggler and will definitely sleep next to you in bed if you let her! She’s still under 2 years old, so she can still sometimes have the energy of a puppy! And given the activities and space she will play and play and play. Winnie is a jumper. She just wants to get on your level and have you give her a big hug. So because of that reason, I think smaller children wouldn’t be able to stand their ground and might get spoked by her eagerness. She’s only been around one cat before, the cat we have at home. Winnie enjoys a good chew bone but she does have some resourcing guarding issues. She will talk, but the entire time her tail will be wagging if you talk to her/approach her while she has it. She’ll even bring it right up to your face to say “look what I have” while still talking/mumbling and still wagging her tail. If you sternly tell her to drop the bone and leave it, she will listen. She is house trained and good with being left out of a crate. She knows sit, stay, paw, spin, lay down and belly.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
