Big Mack

ADOPTED! June 22, 2016

BigMack_600

bigmack_fosterBig Mack is a severely obese beagle mix. He was found on the side of the road outside of Columbus and taken to the local shelter. When he was found by the Good Samaritan he was scared and did nip/bite her in the process of being saved from the road. Due to the report he was held for 10 days until he could be released. During this time an owner was sought out but none came forward. He weighed 70 pounds when he arrived at the veterinary clinic, lost 10 in his 10 day hold and since moving into a foster home with us he’s lost a few more pounds.

dogfoodBig Mack is pretty inactive given his size but he would love to play with dogs when he can get around better. He is currently living in a home with two other dogs and he’s doing well. We took him to our veterinarian and he may be in need of a knee repair surgery. Our first order of business is to get some weight off of him (through diet and exercise) and then we will tackle what ailments he may have. He is currently on some medication for arthritis/inflamation as well as pain medicine as needed to help him get around.

Mack is very fixated on people food  but we are being strict with his diet and feeding him a weight loss formula. Thanks to our supporters we have received two bags in donation for his journey to being a healthier dog. Mack is estimated to be 5-7 years old (it’s hard to tell when dogs dont’ have a good diet), he is good with other dogs and loves people.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
