ADOPTED! July 24, 20154packSHM_600 Pits4Sale_web

We are not in the business of supporting back yard breeders, nor are we in the business of buying street puppies. However, when are motto is ‘Respect the dog’ there are times when we need to break the rules and do what is best for the dogs we encounter. This now CAVS player name inspired 5-pack of puppies is no exception to this rule. The bottom line is they need homes and we are here to find them great homes. A couple was selling a crate full of puppies out of his truck on the corner of Scranton Road and Clark Avenue. Sign held high in the air reading “Pit Bull Puppies for Sale” the puppies were piled up in a crate, soaking wet from the afternoon down pour, their mama dog by their side. After a little education on how the world doesn’t need anymore puppies and how selling puppies in a neighborhood that may not be the best example for bully breed ownership, and education on spaying the mom we were able to negotiate a price and walked away with all five pups. Before we got there 3 others had “sold” to passerby’s.  We may have convinced the owner to spay the mom and hope that he contacts us to get her spayed. He was not willing to relinquish her to our care. She is a 60-75# brindle and the father of the litter looked to be (from pictures) 85-95# American Bull Dog mix. This means these pups will most likely be big.

Now that LeBron (M), Mozgov (M), Iman (F), Kyrie (M) and Delli (F) are in our hands we are confident we will find them the best homes ever. The pups were born on 4/14/2014 and since arriving at our facility they have started their vaccine series and received their heartworm and flea preventatives. They also got baths, a long nap and are waiting for our foster network to help us and take each into a home until they are adopted.

Our puppies are not available for foster-to-adopt and for this breed we will consult each adopter to make sure they understand the importance of raising a bully breed right and proper socialization and set the pups up for success. Please read your city laws and check from Breed Restriction Laws that exclude certain breeds from living in certain areas of Ohio.

The puppies are spayed or neutered.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

LeBron is a great puppy!  He is well on his way to being house-trained!  While he stayed with us, he had only two accidents in the house– impressive for a puppy his age.  Both accidents were near the door that he would use to go outside, so I think he probably just needs to learn to signal that he wants to go outside.  He slept great in his crate each night and even spent a few nights sleeping on one of my kid’s beds (and did great with that too!)  He woke up each morning excited to start the day. (He has a very dramatic yawn, which would make me laugh every morning!)   He was on a pretty regular schedule with us — Outside first thing after waking up to pee, then back inside to eat (he likes to eat and he eats FAST.  No problem with having his food handled though, or taken away.)  Then after eating he would go back outside to eliminate.  After that he liked to hang out with me for a bit, but would typically go back to sleep on a blanket or sometimes sneak on the couch!!  When someone was home we would mostly take him out every hour or two and my kids took him on a short walk each afternoon while I was working.  He got lots of playtime with us and really enjoyed playing ball in the yard.  If no one was home,  we would crate him and he went in easily — especially because he got a treat reward every time!!  LeBron LOVES treats, so training him was pretty easy.  He will sit on command and we have also been working on “down”.  Also, he would typically come when I called his name or whistled, because I would give him lots of praise (and a small training treat) when he did.  He gets very excited to get a treat, so we were also starting to work on him taking the treat nicely.  That is a work in progress….LeBron is a puppy, of course,  so about once each evening he would get a big burst of puppy energy — darting around the house or yard and would sometimes like to nibble on flip flops and other things, but he responded very well to being told “no” and was happy when he was given a toy that he was allowed to chew  Also, giving him lots of exercise and playtime helped reduce the times of puppy-energy.  For the most part though, he is a pretty mellow puppy and enjoys being pet and snuggled.  He is going to make someone a fantastic companion!
