Cranberry

ADOPTED! DECEMBER 4, 2013

Cranberry was transported north from a high-kill shelter in West Virginia by wonderful volunteers who wanted her to get to Secondhand Mutts. She is currently in heat and quarantined from the dogs until her season is over. She is up to date on shots, very friendly and we are anticipating a great reaction once she is acclimated to our daycare floor. She will be meeting staff dogs this week as a slow introduction to socialization. Cranberry has a very outgoing, happy-go-lucky personality. Cranberry is a Doberman mix, we estimate her age at 2 years.

We are in need of dog walkers this week and weekend for her to get out and about in the neighborhood. If you area available please call 216-621-6888 a few hours before you plan to come in and take her out.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

Cranberry is an amazing dog. She is a cuddler and loves attention. This weekend we went to the dog park and Pet People. So many people complimented her on how sweet she is. She spent an hour at Pet People interacting with the staff and customers. Even though we were only there to shop, a few people asked if she was up for adoption. What a superstar! She did good with each dog she met this weekend. No growling or signs of aggressive. She even took male dogs’ interest in stride without acting out.

Cranberry is quick to leash correction. She will be easy to leash train. But, that is the only “trick” or skill she has. She doesn’t know sit, stay, down, or even “come.” I have questioned her ability to hear, but there are times when I whistle or use a high voice and she turns her head.

Cranberry is 100% house trained and crate trained. She has not been caged since Friday night. She has run loose in the house for hours on end alone. She has shown no signs of destruction of furniture. She has shown interest in the cats, but has not shown predatory instincts.

Cranberry loves to look out the windows or be outside. She will do best in a house that allows her to see the outdoors. She will also do very well in a family that likes to go for walks or has a fenced in yard for her to explore. A family must be willing to allow Cranberry to cuddle up on furniture and their bodies. I don’t think she will be happy without human comfort. She will be fine as an only dog. I can see her being a great therapy dog, too. She has the right temperament to be around children and others. She is a big softy.

Cranberry does not know how to play with other dogs or toys. She is timid about climbing stairs. She is also growly; I believe this is a stubborn growl. She growls when I try to get her to climb up the stairs or go in a direction she does not want to go in. She and Maizey had two “getting to know each other” squabbles on Friday, but nothing since.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

Adoption Fee $200
