Mini Pearl

ADOPTED! January 26, 2015

MiniPearl_bodyminipearlSHMMini Pearl and her two (suspected) brothers or sons were found in a home after their owner passed away. They were living on their own with visits from family until a rescue was found who was willing to network them to us. Mini Pearl is a short-haired, all white Chihuahua. She is 7 years old, spayed and up to date on shots. The three dogs were seemingly neglected and one of the boys was found wearing a radio (shock) collar on his neck. All three were taken to a local veterinarian for health checks and Mini Pearl had a small tumor removed while she was spayed. Mini Pearl is now living in a foster home and we hope to get a full report on her behavior int he coming days.

Foster Home Report

Mini Pearl has adjusted well to her foster home.  She is living with several other small dogs and after a week she is getting along nicely with them and has initiated play with one of my dogs. Dink is pretty old and wasn’t really interested but that didn’t stop Mini from trying!  There are also several medium sized dogs in her foster home that she does not like very much.  She did chase them and nip at them at first but she has stopped that behavior and ignores them now.  She would be fine as an only dog or with another submissive small dog.  I don’t have cats but I think she would be OK with them.  She was quite scared when she got here and nippy when picked up or held the wrong way.  She’s relaxed now and is such a sweet little girl. She loves to be petted and held but is just as content to snooze in her dog bed or on the couch. She has been friendly to people visiting.  She goes in her crate willingly to eat but doesn’t particularly like to stay in the crate for long periods.  A baby gate would be a better choice for periods when she needs to be alone.  She does seem to be house trained but will use a pee pad also.  She will need a refresher course when adopted just for reinforcement.  She is a chihuahua (possible mix) and can be barky at times so if you live in an apartment, please take this in to consideration. Transition to a new place may be traumatic for her when adopted so you’ll need to be patient with her.  She’s worth it!  She’s beautiful with her all white coat and brown ears.  One brown spot on the base of her tail.  Adorable!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
