New Arrival – Information Coming Soon!

Peanut is a 25# gentle boy. When you first meet him he will hesitate and may act a little scared but once he gets to know you he warms right up and warms your heart. He arrived at our facility with a dog sister (she has since been placed) coming from a home in central Ohio. The family that brought him to us had taken the pair in from other family members and tried their best to network the two dogs and find them homes in their hometown with no luck. They were able to bring them to us and we although we would have liked to keep the two together they were not a bonded pair and could be separated. Peanut is outgoing and playful around other dogs and will make an excellent companion for someone looking for a small/medium sized dog to chill out with or a couch or sleeping buddy. Peanut recently moved into a foster home recently and we will update his profile with an in-home report as soon as possible.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

Peanut is doing pretty well.  He is chowing down, but his limit seems to be about 3/4 of a cup and I have to mash up the canned food with the water and mix it all up.
No accidents at all but when I get home from work he’s definitely at his limit. He is a very enthusiastic greeter whenever I come home.  He jumps on me when he gets excited and I’m trying to work on that. He also loves cuddling up next to me, but doesn’t seem to be a literal lap dog.  Lots praise and getting petted.
He like his crate.  The only time it’s door is closed is when he eats, but he goes in there a lot at other times.  He sleeps upstairs in my bedroom where he has his own spot.
He has had a bit of an aggression issue.  If he’s been out of the house and comes home he’ll snarl at the cats.  The girls hiss and run away but Gabe stands his ground.  I just yell at them and they break it up without actual contact.  Weird thing is 10 minutes later he will be laying on the couch and a cat will walk by a few feet away and he ignores them.  Or he will get up and smell Gabe’s butt and not do anything else.  Sometimes when they are near he kind of protects his neck, so I think there is a fear thing going on.  No one has gotten hurt but when I leave either he or Gabe gets put in the second bedroom.  Now when he comes home I crate him for about 15 minutes and it seems to alleviate most of the problem.  I thought you guys should know about this but think we are OK here.
When I was walking him once he did lunge and snarl at a Golden Retriever puppy, but didn’t get near him. He’s timid with new people but OK.
He has picked up the household routine by mimicking Charlie.  For some reason he is hesitant to go out in the backyard when it’s dark, so I let him out at sunset and Charlie later.
