Penny Lane

 ADOPTED! October 14, 2013

This sweetheart is on her way to Cleveland from Crawford County, her shelter name was “Bobbie Evans” just wasn’t going to work (we already adopted out a Bob Evans a few years ago) and her foster parents have named her Penny Lane. She was running stray for three weeks, nobody was able to catch her, she was scared and kept running. Finally, she ended up at a Bob Evans and the dog warden was able to get her and bring her back to the shelter where she would be safe. “Bobbie” they called her was adopted shortly after she arrived and then was returned 3 days later. The people who adopted her took her to their vet and found out she was heartworm positive. We will be re-testing her when she gets here and moving forward with heartworm treatment

heartworm_positivePenny Lane will be staying in a wondeful foster home where she will get what she needs to recover from being a heartworm positive dog. We anticipate her treatment to extend over two months but that will not inhibit someone from adopting her during that time. She will not be spayed until the vet has given us the clearance that she has a clean bill of health. All medical expenses associated with her heartworm and spay will be covered regardless of her getting a home or being in foster care. The cost of treatment can run upwards of $800 so we are seeking donations to add to our “Heartworm Fund”. Each year, in January, we hold our annual Pancake Barkfeast which helps us raise money for the heartworm positive dogs we take in. This year we have taken in, treated and placed “Handsome Dan” and are still looking for a home for “Chico” who is currently undergoing treatment. BobbieEvans_body

As we get to know her we will update the website often. Please stay tuned for a full foster report!

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
