Seesaw was surrendered to us by a family that had “purchased her from a breeder on Craigslist” and realized they were not ready for such a young dog or big commitment. We do not know how long she was listed on Craigslist but we do know she was taken from her mother about 2 weeks too early (6 weeks). The family that had her for a short time had young children in the home so she has been exposed to children at a very young age. She was a bit overwhelmed when she first arrived at our facility with all the dogs and people to meet. She spent about a week here socializing with a large pack and moved into a temporary foster home for a week to get some crate training, exposure to adult dogs and humans. Due to a busy work schedule she was returned by the foster for another week but has since left for a foster again with a single person. He will continue to work on her house training, house manners and socializing her at daycare a few days a week.

FOSTER HOME REPORT

She is still working on potty training.  She does cry at first when put in crate but quiets down pretty quickly. We have her sitting before meals, as well as working on sitting for attention when we get home. She has learned some manners but does not back down right away from Grace and Kookie but has noticeably improved in that area. She does well on the leash but gets super excited when we get back close to the house and tends to try and pull then.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
