Sweet Tea

ADOPTED! July 24, 2015
SweetTeaSHM_pp

Sweet Tea is a medium sized Shepherd Mix. She has a dense coat and resembles a Shibu Inu mix breed. She was picked up as a stray the first week of January in Cleveland, pregnant and ready to give birth. She was taken to the City of Cleveland Kennel and on January 6, 2015 she gave birth to 4 puppies in the garage kennel stall. A city kennel is no place for a mom and her new pups to start their new life so we lined up a foster home for the pack and moved them to foster. Sweet Tea is shy and timid. She is not overly protective of her pups. She is taking great care of them in her whelping box and keeping them warm and fed. Mama and puppies will be available to adopt the first week of March. There are three males and one female puppy.

Foster Home Report

There’s the scoop on me:  I like my space because it takes me a little bit to warm up to you and adjust to a new environment.  I like the outside where I play in the sun with my foster sister (a pitbull) and brother (a small terrier) all day long.  I like to roll in the grass.  There is this one spot that I particularly love to roll in and if I’m not playing you can find me rolling back and forth makes everyone around me dizzy.  I like belly rubs a lot on the couch or a dog bed.  I often prefer to get attention on my “safe spots”, those are couches and dog beds so if you come near me or hold out a treat I’ll go to my spot and hope you’ll follow so I can enjoy a treat and some pets from you.

I have always been a dog lover (let me guess you too!) but I was nervous with the two I came to live with at first.  I felt a little overwhelmed, over sniffed, I wasn’t sure who’s couch was whose and is this my bed or not.  Who goes first out the door and do we wait for everyone to be served before we eat…ahhhhh.  There was so much for me to see and learn and acclimate to.  Within a few weeks I was a pro at how things went.  Lucky for me everyone eats together, shares beds and couches, belly rubs and treats so I never had to wait my turn or be separated from the pack.

I am left outside of a crate in the house during the day and it’s been nice to chill out with my brother and sister and play,  sleep,  grab some sun by a window or lay on the cool floor.  Since I have been here there have been a pair of shoes and a couch pillow corner that were chewed, but being one of three there is no proof it’s me doing itJ  Since then things are all picked up off the floors and it’s been great ever since.

My foster mom and I had babies around the same time and while she loves little fingers and feet in her face, I prefer them not.  I like kids okay but I don’t like when kids or people come at me fast it makes me very nervous so older kids would be a good fit for me.  I’d love another dog or two to play with and show me the ropes of your house.  I am very submissive, have no food or treat issues whatsoever.  I am almost housebroken but still sneak down to the basement during the day if I can’t wait.

I’ve come a long way in the past month.  I used to never go outside or move from the space I was in.  I would only eat if you put food right in front of me and I would hold my potty for days and go inside.  I was terrified of people, leashes, car rides and anything loud or bright near me.  When my foster mom or any person would come into a room I was so scared and if I saw a leash I’d run as fast as I could.  BUT….now I will come up to my foster mom when she got home and wagged my tail and put my face right into hers and gave her kisses and got lots of pets.  I will follow her around and go to whatever floor she is on.  I take treats in the kitchen (or wherever) your giving them and I will come to my dish, not have it come to me.  I am okay with leashes especially when I see Alabama and Roscoe get theirs on first, and then I know we all are going together.  I ride with a seat belt next to my mom which helps me with anxiety of where we are going.  Don’t get me wrong with the last paragraph I am no “project dog” I am an amazing companion and just like everyone else I need a little guidance and patience.
