Trixie is an 11 year old Jack Russell Terrier mix. She is a hefty 32# and is now on a weight loss regime to get her down to 20#. She is otherwise healthy and happy. Her owners had two dogs and were moving and opted to have Trixie euthanized. In the veterinary and rescue world this is known as a “convenience euthanasia” and lucky for Trixie the clinic intervened and bought some time while they networked to find her a rescue. We stepped up and the owners delivered her to us and signed her over. She arrived spayed and having some of her vaccines. She has been to our vet clinic and has all of her vaccines now up to date including her heartworm test. We are focusing on having her lose weight and have put her on a low calorie food to help that process. She will also have access to exercising more at daycare with her new friends. Trixie is a love bug so if you’re in the spirit of adopting a senior dog giver her the opportunity….she won’t disappoint!
If you are interested in meeting Trixie please fill out an application or email us. Look for her at upcoming events too!
FOSTER HOME REPORT
Trixie is a great dog. She’s friendly, sweet, and mellow. She loves to go for walks, ride in the car, and hang out in the yard. She gets along with my two mutts and enjoys playing with them. She seems to prefer human company and spends time chilling or napping next to or on my recliner. When I leave, I sometimes confine her in the kitchen, which has worked out fine. If I’m gone for a short time, she has the run of the house. She is housebroken so no need for a crate.
She is continuing to eat dry diet food which is helping her lose weight. Her activity/play level is increasing. She’s pretty agile for an older gal and runs up and down the stairs and jumps up on the bed easily. She could probably use a little leash training but it’s not a big deal. She does bark, mostly when outside, but not excessively. She’s well behaved, wants to please, and listens much better than my two!Trixie really is wonderful and would be a calm, easy to live with, and nice senior dog companion. Trixie may be the one for you so please contact SHM and set up a meeting. She certainly deserves a new lease on life.
