Juneau

JuneauSHMTwo beautiful dogs are victims of an eviction, unfortunately their owner had to sign them over to the shelter in Lakewood last week. Both dogs are well-behaved and very friendly. Juneau’s brother, Bear, was adopted quickly leaving Juneau behind looking for his forever family. He is 4 years old, a fluffy, white shepherd mix. He is 103 pounds and a gentle, gentle giant. We shared his story on Facebook last night with the hopes of finding him a foster home for CCLAS, and there was an overwhelming response.

The Lakewood Animal Shelter and CCLAS at took it upon themselves to take care of getting Juneau’s vaccinations up to date and scheduled him for his neuter appointment on April 1st. Well, the April Fools joke must have been on Juneau because he had a terrible experience after his surgery which caused his testicle area immediate swelling, bruising and bleeding. Thanks again to the volunteers at CCLAS he was rushed to the Lakewood Animal Hospital for their advise and guidance. It was determined he would need surgery to remove his scrotum.

CCLAS volunteers reached out to our organization and we agreed to take him in as a Secondhand Mutt and provide him with the medical treatment he needed at Gateway Animal Clinic. Our mission is to respect the dog and provide medical treatment to our dogs and Juneau is no exception to this. This afternoon he was transported to the clinic and was immediately cared for by Dr. Liz. Unfortunately for Juneau he will have to endure a second surgery, requiring more anesthesia to have his scrotum completely removed. He will be recovering in a foster home this weekend thanks to our friend Melissa.

We are seeking donations and financial support to care for Juneau’s medical bill. Donations made be made through our Paypal link on our website home page: http://www.SecondhandMutts.org. Juneau will be available to adopt in about a week, interested parties can apply online through our website application.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.

2013 Dog Adoption Fee: $200
