For those of you following the story of the “Mange Puppy”, we have some sad news to share.

This morning we received a call from Westpark Animal Hospital that Ogie, the mange puppy we agreed to take in last week after finding him a foster home, had declined health over the weekend. He stopped eating and became extremely lethargic. We got an update that Ogie was transferred around 11 AM to Metro Veterinary Hospital in Akron in hopes of figuring out what was wrong with him. Fido’s Companion, a local rescue stepped up for Ogin and agreed to take on all of his medical expenses and care, which is beyond kind. They  partnered with us to help find him a home. We had already received one glowing application and then received this message from Fido’s Companion:

mangepuppy2“My heart is broken and my poor volunteer Toni has to be a total wreck.  We consulted with the specialists after advanced blood-work was run and an exam was done.  They felt Ogie had an underlying Kidney issue or congenital disorder causing his critical condition.  They do not feel his issue was related to his severe mange.  They could have done more testes to pin point the disease (even possible lymphoma) to determine how to treat, but the specialists told me they felt that there was less than a 10% chance of being able to treat his condition once it was figured out.

They told me if they were left with the decision on what to do with Ogie at this time, they would humanely euthanize him so that is what I have chosen to do.

Toni is with him. Thank you Toni.  I only pray to be with him one day again when my time comes.  I am sorry to all our supporters who donated that I could not make him better.  I can’t help but feel total and utter failure.

Please forgive me Ogie for not being able to make you  well.  Run free my boy with all those FIDO babies that have gone before you.

Your rescue mom,

Michelle”

We are so sad but know our friends at Fido’s, Westpark and Metro did everything thing possibly could for poor Ogie. We are glad he is no longer suffering.
Thank you all for your support and positive vibes that were sent.
