Poor Pearl…..she is recovering from a broken leg and is wearing a cast for another week or so. The good folks at Gateway Animal Clinic took her in a month ago, fixed up her leg and is now settling in with us to find a forever home. She was hit by a car and her owners took her to Gateway but never came back to get her. We will never truly understand why or how people can dump dogs but when they do and we can help we try.

Pearl is a bit shy meeting new people but we don’t blame her – she’s been through a lot. She gets around great with her casted leg, she just hopes right on it and runs around like every other dog. She likes other dogs and will be introduced to our full pack tomorrow and getting light exercise until her cast comes off.  Pearl is about 8 months old, she is 30-35 pounds, has enormous ears and a skinny frame. She is up to date on shots, spayed and eager to find a loving home.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

Pearl has settled in nicely at our home. She is doing well with house training. We have only had a few accidents. She needs to go out right away after leaving her crate. If I get her out quickly we have no issues. She seems to be able to hold her bladder for eight hours in her crate. She quiet downs after 5 minutes and goes to sleep. After settling in, she gets along great with my other two dogs. They like to play fetch (but not return) in the yard. They also wrestle and stop when ordered. That is progress. She knows her name and comes when she called. Even with a broken legs, she is so fast.

She is a lover-cuddler. She is happiest when laying on top of me or in my lap. She will make a great family pet that has a yard for her to run or who has time to talk her on walks. She did good with kids at PetPeople.

We have a cat. She is interested but does not bark and shows no signs of aggression.

We are working on food and toy guarding. Each day, as the three dogs get more comfortable, they get better and better. It is not completely Pearl’s fault; my dogs have been instigators in at least two of the incidents.

She is less skiddish around men. She did great meeting my male neighbors and the men at Pet People.
