Wilson and Montgomery (Monty) are rescue transfers from Fido’s Companion. They were originally brought to Ohio on a rescue transport from Alabama to seek out homes. They were picked up together as strays and when they were not claimed they were transferred out to save them from euthanasia (common when there is a lack of space or funding for dogs in county or city shelters). Upon arrival it was discovered Wilson was heartworm positive. He is heartworm positive received his first heartworm treatment at Westpark Animal Hospital on July 20-21 and will have a follow up treatment in one month followed by another month of low-activity rest. We would absolutely love for the brothers to be placed together if someone were open to adopting the pair but they do not need to be placed as they are doing well separated.

We are going The Extra Mile for Wilson. The overall cost to alleviate heartworms in one dog, including hospitalization, medications, x-rays, blood work and office visits office visits most often exceeds $700…for just one dog.

Wilson will be staying in a foster home until mid-August unless a low-activity applicant with a home that is a match for his adoption is found and we can transfer him into a home on a trial basis. He is a very happy go lucky dog who needs to learn his commands. He is eager to work for treats (what Labrador isn’t) and we anticipate he will love the water.

UPDATE: Montgomery has been a pretty popular guy here and he did leave with a family for a trial adopt.
