Wombat was picked up as a stray in Cleveland and taken to the Cleveland Animal CareĀ  and Control facility for an owner to claim her. She was extremely thin and a few days passed and nobody showed up so we were happy to admit her to our program. Wombat appeared to have recently had puppies or may have been in a cycle to have them as her nipples were protruding and her private parts were very swollen. Our veterinarian did two radio-graphs over two weeks and there was no indication of puppies so we proceeded with having her spayed. Wombat moved into a foster home and is recuperated from surgery and ready to find a home of her own!

Wombat has been happily living with a large Doberman Pinscher, a look-a-like (and former Secondhand Mutt) pitbull mix, 3 chihuahuas, a deaf cat and a house pig. She gets along great with everyone. Wombat is very playful, excited to see her “people” when they get home and even more excited to play with her friends at The Mutt Hutt. She loves chewing on bones, chasing balls (she can’t catch them yet) and engaging in play. Her favorite stimulation is rope exercise which is great for mental and physical exercise. She does get a bit mouthy but responds well to verbal commands. She knows how to sit and will need additional training to polish and learn more skills. When she first arrived she was a bit possessive of her food (remember she was starving) but after a week of receiving regular meals, sitting for them and being introduced appropriately to eating with other dog friends she is doing great. She is very responsive to other dogs cues and does not have any negative qualities other than typical puppy stuff (such as finding and destroying shoes).

Wombat would benefit from an active owner, additional time in a crate, lots of exercise and training. Her foster providers are donating 3 dog training lessons with Anthony at The Mutt Hutt to get her on the right track after she is adopted. And, they bought her a fancy pink printed collar to pass along with her.
