Del

ADOPTED! October 16, 2014

DelSHMDel is a 40 pound Lab Mix. He’ has cute little white toes and eyes full of soul. We received a call from the Knox Dog Shelter in Mt. Vernon, Ohio that Del had reached his time limit and was scheduled to be euthanized. The volunteer tasked with networking him was in tears sharing his history and story and we were glad we had the space to take him in. Del had been in the shelter since May and was starting to go “cage crazy” and walking up walls and circling in his kennel. He was excited to get out of his kennel but put the brakes on getting back in and clearly didn’t want to be there any longer. Del stopped eating and was losing weight at a rapid pace. Thanks to kind people who care and our wonderful network we found a volunteer transporter that could meet the Knox Dog Shelter volunteers 1/2 way to pick him up and bring him to our facility.

Del is about 2-3 years old and has a gentle spirit. As we get to know him we will update his profile and match him up with an adopter. Based on our initial evaluation we believe he would be great with anyone, a family with kids, or someone who just wants a solo dog to pamper. Del is moving into a temporary foster home where he can decompress from his last 5 months of incarceration in a shelter environment, get a good nights sleep, meet a dog friend and a cat. Del is up to date on shots and neutered.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
