10405789_10203940390219716_934189916_nFuzz was posted on Craiglist.org by his owner who was attempting to re-home him. Knowing we had a foster home available for a young pig, we sent an email to let her know we were an option and had availability to help re-home her pig to insure he would end up in a secure forever home. Too often pigs are up for sale or adoption from breeders or people who get them and don’t realize what they are getting involved in with owning a pig and they end up passed around from home to home. This is not ideal for young pig let along any animal. We did not get a response (this is normal) so we made one more attempt and reached out to the owner by phone and let us know we’d like to help with his placement but it was too late – she had placed him already. Three days later there was a message on our voicemail from the person who purchased Fuzz asking us for help. Apparently she had taken Fuzz home and her dogs did not respond to having a pig in their home despite Fuzz being socialized with dogs in his former home. The new owner called the original owner asking to return him but she refused and directed her to our rescue. Lucky for Fuzz we admitted him and he’s now ready for a forever home.

10356562_10203884580184500_1778837594_nFuzz is 7 months old, he is up to date on shots, he is neutered and his needle teeth have been removed. He is a very friendly pig, he knows his name and he will come when he is called. He takes food gently. Fuzz is currently living in a foster home . He gets along with kids, cats, pigs and dogs. Fuzz knows how to climb steps, he can jump on furniture, and he loves to sleep in a bed with a human and get belly rubs before falling asleep. We prefer to find him a home with a fenced in yard where he can be contained and graze.

Please know that not all dogs get along with pigs and we will be very selective about the home he transitions to – just because he’s been socialized with dogs does not mean all dogs are socialized to live with a pig. Dogs with prey drive are not going to work with a household pig due to noises pigs make and the reaction dogs with prey drive have. We are more than happy to conduct a meet and greet with any approved applicant.

Please research your city laws and local animal ordinances before applying to own a pig. If you are unsure where to find this information we can help you find it or you can call your city zoning department for information. Pigs can grow to be 50-150 pounds over a 3-4 year growing period. They need a good diet of fresh vegetables and fruit as well as pig feed which is available at most feed and seed stores. Pigs are social animals that like having things to do to keep busy and not be destructive. If you do not have time to give your pig your time a pig is not the animal for you.
