Despite Shaggy’s neglect and discomfort when we first met him he arrived a happy go lucky and grateful dog once out of the city kennel environment. He had been picked up as a stray and assumed his owner did not want him because he had a rabies tag and was not returned home. Given his condition it’s for the best he stayed put and we were able to release him from the kennel’s care. First up a trip to The Mutt Hutt Grooming Salon for a spa treatment (and shave down) and what a huge difference it was. Big thanks to Amanda and Bre for donating their time to care for one more dog in our organization. As you can see from the before, during and after’s he’s in much better shape now. And of course he’s got a nice warm sweater to help keep him warm on these cold winter days and nights.

Shaggy quickly moved into a trial adoption home with an applicant that has been waiting for a match for her other dog she adopted from us a few years ago. She took him to the vet for his heath check and vaccinations and anticipates making a decision about keeping him or holding him until we find someone to adopt him. She has asked that we post his picture and bio as to not pass up on an opportunity that could be a better home if hers is not. Therefore we are currently accepting applications and will be setting up meet y and greets for applicants interested in adopting Shaggy.

Shaggy is estimated to be around 9 years old. He is pretty active and loves being around people. He has the best little personality and will steal the show if given the opportunity to perform. He is up to date on shots and neutered.

FOSTER HOME REPORT:

He is totally house trained – had only 1 accident first morning I had him and that was my fault for taking a shower before I let him out.  He is a lovable sweet guy who wants to be right by me all the time.  He likes to snuggle really close and that may also be because he doesn’t have much hair these days.  Before he was shaved, he loved going outside and wanted to walk all the time.  Now that he is a little colder, he still likes to get bundled up in his coat and go, but wants in earlier.  Once he grows back some fur he will be up for long walks I am sure.  He can jump up on couches and beds and is fine going up the stairs.  I crated him the first few days and he was fine with that, but then I stopped and he doesn’t want to go in the crate, but would be easy to restart him… but really there is no need.  No chewing, no accidents and gets along fine with Chance.  There has been zero aggression.  He has no interest in Chance’s chewy’s because of his teeth so that’s not an issue either.  I have been adding wet foot and some water so it is easier for him to chew but he definitely needs dental care.  He’s pretty mellow.
He would do well as an only dog I think, not because of any inappropriate behavior towards my dog, but because he wants ALL the loving!!!  He is a perfect dog really.  He takes treats gently and has a very very sweet soul.  Shaggy is an all around mellow, loving dog.
