Make your donation today!

$25: Four months of Heartgard treatment for a heartworm positive dog
$50: Average cost of one heart x-ray
$100: Covers one heart x-ray and the average cost of oral antibiotics taken (usually for at least one month) along with one month of Heartgard
$150: 1 CBC and one month Heartgard
$250: Cost of one average-sized dose of Immiticide, two months of Heartgard treatment, anesthetic, pain meds and one night of hospitalization

Wyatt-beforeWyatt is an older, distinguished gentleman who was found down on his luck roaming the streets of Cleveland. He was picked up and taken to the City of Cleveland Animal Control facility located in Tremont where he waited patiently for his owner to come and claim him. Sadly, nobody showed up. Dog arriving at the shelter are given basic health exams and care as needed and while Wyatt was there he was tested for heartworms and his test was positive. He has a fairly bad cough from being exposed to kennel cough, cataracts and may have a hard time hearing. His coat was messy and matted but his spirits were high when we picked him up to release him from the kennel.

Wyatt-groomedWyatt immediately went to The Mutt Hutt Grooming Salon and received a full pampering donated by Amanda. She brushed out his coat and fluffed him up removing all of his mats and cleaned up his coat shape. He was well behaved while being groomed and we believe he enjoyed the spa treatment. Waytt strutted his stuff over to the daycare where he met his foster mom Lee and then he and a bag of toys, treats and a crate were packed up and they headed to his new temporary home.

Wyatt will receive the best care we can provide for him at Gateway Animal Clinic. We will have his chest Xray’d to determine the condition of the disease and then figure out his treatment after his diagnosis. Typically a dog with a heartworm positive diagnosis will stay in a foster home or adoptive home where they can remain calm and cared for (all medical expenses we cover) after being injected with a fluid designed to kill the worms that have taken over his heart. The process can take up to two injections a month apart while the dog stays calm and relaxed. This means Wyatt would be best suited to stay in his foster home or get adopted by an applicant that has low activity in their home (including kids and dogs). We will continue to update his profile as we learn more about his condition and heathcare plan moving forward.
