Bama

ADOPTED! September 4, 2013

This big headed, low rider pit mix has nothing but L-O-V-E to give. Once a breeding bitch, now a former mama dog looking to relax in a place called home, she is safe with Secondhand Mutts. Found in Lorain County as a stray, she ended up at the shelter but nobody came to claim her. We are glad about that, it means less population of unwanted puppies on the planet. She arrived in her heat cycle so she is going to wait a week or so before she can get spayed. In the meantime, she is is in our quarantine room getting lots of visits from our staff. She needs daily walks so we welcome our many active volunteers to call us and see if she’s in need of a walk. Walkers are welcome to walk her anytime between 9 AM and 6:30 PM weekdays and weekends from 9 am to 5 pm.

Bama is great with other dogs, she loves having playtime with the entire pack at the daycare. She is up to date on shots and we suspect she is housebroken. Bama has been going to obedience classes with her foster home. She is very good at sit, stay, heel and down.

FOSTER HOME REPORT (from Alabama herself):

Hey guys it’s me, Alabama or Bama for short.  Just wanted to give you a little update on myself.  I have had a great summer hanging out on my porch, dog parks, metro parks and the kiddy pool my foster mom bought.  I found out I’m a great swimmer and am a pro at fetch.  I play well with dogs big and little.  I walk around a lot in Ohio City and seem to be okay with the local cats, even though they freak my foster mom out.  Kids love me and look forward to my park visits.  I also had an awesome opportunity this summer with TMH trainer Anthony (don’t know his last name).  He taught me how to heal, sit and stay.  We worked on down and I even got to meet his dog Cheese.  I was able to followed the commands I was taught while his dog tried to distract me, haha Cheese you can’t fool me.  Since my foster mom is a teacher she knows the importance of consistency and has continued the training techniques we learned together.  I’d like to meet you, give you a smile ( I got a great smile). a friendly lick and show you all the tricks up my sleeve.   ~ Alabama AlabamaSHM_castAlabmaSHM_bed

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
