Bentley

ADOPTED! August 2, 2015BentleySHM_600

BentleySHM_bodyBentley is a two year old Lab/Husky/Collie mix. He and his previous owner moved to the area from the west coast and moved back home this summer. She boarded him at a local kennel while making arrangements for Bentley to move in with a friend. He was boarded at a local kennel and two weeks later her friend never showed up to pick him up. Bentley’s owner contacted us and asked if we could help and we headed out to meet him and evaluate him for our program. We determined Bentley would be a good addition and wanted to help his owner find the peace she needed. She had raised Bentley from the time he was a young pup and didn’t expect life make an unexpected turn and have to leave him behind. Bentley is good with other dogs and children. Bentley’s favorite game is fetch.

Bentley is up to date on shots, neutered and ready to find a forever family!

fosterhomeBentley is seeking a foster home to chill out in until he finds a forever family to adopt him. If you are interested in learning more about our foster program please email our volunteers at foster_coordinators@secondhandmutts.org.

PRIOR HOME REPORT

Bentley was born on April 1st, 2013. He is a mix of husky, Labrador retriever and collie. His mother was a purebred husky and his father was half lab, half collie. He is from Eugene, Oregon, Track City, USA. It’s very fitting because he loves to run for miles. He is the perfect companion for a runner. He also likes to go joring. Joring is a sport that is gaining a lot of popularity out west. The dog wears a pulling harness (the type used in the Iditarod, not the type you can find at Petsmart that are designed to stop a dog from pulling). The person rides on cross country skis or roller skates, skateboard, scooter etc and the dog pulls them. Bentley can pull you for miles and loves doing it, especially in the snow. Speaking of snow, he loves to play in the snow and never gets tired of it. If you throw a shovel full of snow up in the air he will jump through it and try to catch it in his mouth, it’s a game he never gets tired of! He also loves to play fetch and run around with the other dogs at the dog park.

Bentley gets along well with other dogs. He plays gently with smaller dogs, though he can roughhouse with the big dogs as well. He likes to explore and got loose a couple times while I was fostering him. He will come back eventually, but his obedience needs a little work. I took him camping one weekend and he did well off leash in the woods. Off leash in a neighborhood is a different story though [DISCLAIMER: Secondhand Mutts does not recommend off-leash activity with newly adopted dogs]. He has a very easy going temperament and is very good around people and dogs. He lives for belly rubs and if you do it long enough, he will fall asleep for you. He’s an amazing dog.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
