Chicken and Pickles are suspected siblings. They and ten other dogs from an Amish puppy reproduction farm (puppy mill) were turned over to a local animal shelter. When dogs are kept for breeding and no longer useful for income often times they are abandoned or turned over to animal authorities. Working with another local rescue that took in the majority of the dogs we offered to take two and find them homes. The girls are now in foster homes and do not need to be placed together. We would like them to have dog siblings though as they are less shy and more comfortable being around dogs. They both like humans but it does take some time for them to warm up at first. They have timid/shy personalities with much love to share.

The duo moved into a short-term foster home for some exposure to kids and they passed with flying colors. It didn’t take long for the dogs to warm up to the kids (5 and 7 years old).

Chicken is living in a foster home with several other middle aged to senior small breed dogs. Her foster provider has a special place in her heart for the mill dogs and understands their conflict. Chicken arrived and would circle and circle when she walked; a tendency picked up from being left in a crate or kennel for long periods of time (or her entire life). Her foster mom has been doing reiki treatments and this has helped her tremendously.

Pickles is living in a foster home with 3 middle aged to senior medium and small breed dogs. Her foster provider has had experience with shut down dogs and socializing them.

The best home environment for both Chicken and Pickles would be one with a dog friend or each other, an apartment/condo with leash walks or a home with a fenced yard. We do believe these girls given their fear tendencies would need the fenced yard to stay contained if they were to get out of the house. Because they are shy with people they would have a tendency to be scared and run until trust with their new person is established.

The girls were both professionally groomed at The Mutt Hutt Grooming Salon courtesy of Jaimie who donates her services to dogs in need. They did very well at the grooming salon with their baths, nail trims and blow dry services.
