HOSPICE ADOPTION! June 26, 2014
Coco was pulled from shelter outside Indianapolis, IN. We received word through a partnering rescue, Southwest Ohio Doberman Rescue, that she was going to be euthanized if a rescue did not take her in within 48 hours. SWODR did not have an available foster home or room at their shelter so we sprung into action to get her to Cleveland. Coco’s owners could not longer care for her after reporting she had a few seizures in the last 3 months resulting in her taking medicine. They could not afford the medicine and asked to have her euthanized. The shelter intervened and Coco was able to move to rescue to find a forever home.
We received news at 8 pm on a Saturday night that we had 48-hours to get her to safety. Through Facebook networking we were able to secure her a ride through three volunteer drivers. Big thanks to Toni for finding Tom and Kelly for finding Donna and to our awesome volunteers Mary Jo and Kip for doing the 5 hour round trip from Cleveland to Columbus and back to get her to us. She arrived safely and then went into foster.
We are trying to track down Coco’s veterinary history and in the meantime keeping a close eye on her with one of our most experienced fosters. We will be taking her to see Dr. Liz at Gateway Animal Clinic for an assessment and then she will be ready to find a forever home. Coco is 3 years old, good with dogs, cats and pigs (!). She is a total sweetheart and very gentle. She could use some help with some basic commands, she is an excellent passenger in the car and crate trained.
We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
Dog Adoption Fee: $250
