Drew

DrewSHM_bodyADOPTED! October 7, 2016

Drew is a 5 month (as of Aug 15, 2016) old Hound mix breed.  He was admitted at the ASPCA Pet Shelter and adopted in June by the person who surrendered him to us. That

person lost her home and was living in her car with Drew. She tried to take him to the homeless shelter she was forced to move into but dogs are not accepted so her social worker reached out for help. The prior shelter required a $250 return fee that could not be paid for by the owner due to hardship so a few rescue groups were contacted and we agreed to take him in. We are currently looking for a committed foster home to move Drew so he can be crate and house trained (if he isn’t already as that is unknown at this time) and get the structure and socialization a young pup needs. He is neutered and up to date on shots.

Drew looks pretty big in this picture but his actual size is around 35 pounds. He is long and skinny and has the body of a large Whippet mix type dog. We estimate he will not get much bigger than 40#.

Given his age we would recommend Drew to any family or individual adopter who can properly provide a home, attention, exercise and socialization for a young dog.

If you are interested in adopting Drew please email us at rescue@secondhandmutts.org.

WEEKEND FOSTER REPORT:

drew_kidDrew spent a weekend at my house. He was very well behaved in the 45 minute car ride home with my 17 month old male Mastiff/Ridgeback mix in the backseat with him. He did try to get into the front seat a few times but other than that, very well behaved. For not ever meeting me or my family before, he was instantly affectionate and very loving. He curled up with my 11 year old daughter and soaked up the attention. He let her pick him up and was completely relaxed. Drew has no issues with fear or anxiety as any dog in his situation could easily have. He seems very well adjusted and fit right in with our routine. He was not very fond of our dog.

I took Drew for a walk and he encountered other dogs. He barked a little, then sniffed and got along with each one. The two dogs he met were VERY laid back and submission dogs. He seemed to get along much better with that type of personality. I would characterize Drew’s energy level as Medium to High. A 20 minute walk completely zapped him of his energy. He loves being near people and was super affectionate and docile with my kids. He even let my 12 year old son hold him like a baby. Drew is one of the sweetest puppies I have ever met. He is a lover and will make a great addition to any family.

We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. Appointments must be made in advance to meet our Secondhand Mutts. Please call 216-664-9660 or email rescue@secondhandmutts.org to set up a time. We are closed on Sundays. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
