Higgens is being Mutt-Matched with a pre-approved applicant. Our Mutt-Match program allows us the opportunity to pre-match them up with a dog and then notify them when one comes into our program we believe is a fit. If for any reason Higgens is not a fit for the applicant(s) we have in mind he will be available to anyone who would like to adopt him.
Higgens was picked up as a stray in Cuyahoga County and taken to the Cuyahoga County Kennel in hopes he owners would come claim him. He waited out the hold time and then went onto the shelter adoption floor to wait for someone to adopt him. Dobermans do not always do well in shelter environments so the Shelter Manager networked him to come to Secondhand Mutts so he could have a cage-free experience finding a home.
Higgens is around a year old (give or take a couple months), he’s a beautiful pure bred Doberman Pinscher with cropped ears and a docked tail. Someone, at some point owned this dog and put time into his upbringing. He is very obedient, knows some basic commands and is a quick learner. He would benefit from some leash training. He is very much a young dog with lots of energy and puppy mentality. He likes to steal things and take them away, he likes blankets, chasing balls and chewing bones. He appears to be house trained but there is always an adjustment period for any new dog going into a new environment.
We are not a traditional shelter, we are a cage-free facility. All dogs are temperament tested and must get along with other dogs to stay here. We prefer to adopt to local families but will consider long distance adoptions.
